FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Book Blogging Karma Project?

Chances are you are looking at this because you are a book blogger. Friend, you hold great power in your hand. You've got the power to convince people to eye books they would never consider otherwise. You have the power to rise above the petty drama that occurs on a pretty much weekly basis. This project is all about spreading positivity and doing good works through our blogs. There will be mini-challenges spread throughout the year for bloggers to participate in. The challenges will be hosted on different blogs, but you will claim points here.

2. Did someone say points? What are points for?

Great question! Sometimes people need just a little incentive to do random acts of kindness or a little friendly competition. You will be given the chance to earn points in various ways. One way is by tweeting the links of other bloggers. Each time you tweet another blogger's post you will earn one point. You can earn up to 20 points per month this way. Each time you comment SINCERELY on another blogger's post (i.e. actually read the post and comment with something relevant that is not your link) you will earn one point. You can earn up to 20 points per month this way. You will claim points here on the Book Blogging Karma Project Blog.

Perhaps you want more points? THEN YOU NEED TO PARTICIPATE IN CHALLENGES. The challenges will be simple, but will earn you more points at once.

As soon as you begin earning points, you will appear on a leaderboard page, where we will post your amount of points and your blog link. Think of this as a source of pride, plus a way to really show people what an awesome person you are.

Each time you earn points, you will be entered into a prize pool drawing. Drawings may occur randomly and in conjunction with challenges.

When you earn 200 points, you will be placed in a special drawing for an ereader of your choice up to a certain price limit OR 100$ gift card to the bookstore of your choosing. After your first 200 points are earned, every 100 points you earn afterwards will gain you an additional entry into the big ticket drawing.

3. What do you mean, challenges?

Challenges are tasks you can complete on your blog which will earn you points. They range from reviewing a book by a GLBTQ author to reviewing a book featuring People Of Color to buying a book by a debut author to featuring an independent bookstore to distributing author swag at a public place designated for books i.e. a library or bookstore to checking books out of your local library to featuring a blog with less than 100 followers/a newbie blogger to featuring bloggers who inspire you.

There are so many ways to participate in challenges AND get to know new bloggers.

4. I'm currently participating in the ___________ challenge, can I use those books for the Book Blogging Karma Project mini challenges too?

Absolutely you can! The goal of the Book Blogging Karma Project is to foster a sense of community, and different challenges often bring us together as a community.

5. I have a great idea for a challenge. Can I host one for the Book Blogging Karma Project?

The first thing you should do is shoot an email to BookBloggingKarmaProject@gmail.com from there the BBKP committee will check to see that another blogger is not already hosting a challenge along those same lines for the BBKP. If another blogger is not already doing the same thing, you will be given a date to post your challenge, as well as a point value assigned to your challenge. We will then write a post with the title of your challenge on the BBKP blog, and then provide a link to send participants your way for full details. Participants will claim points however on the BBKP post. This is to keep the point claiming central and easy for those who have committed to tallying.

11. This sounds really great! I want to help, but I am too shy to host a mini-challenge, or I am hosting a mini-challenge but also want to do something behind the scenes, what can I do?

I believe this is called VOLUNTEERING, and is a fabulous question. People are needed for logistics, and tallying and organizing. One person cannot do it all. Therefore, please email BookBloggingKarmaProject@gmail.com and we will add you to the list of volunteers.
